Staying safe through coronavirus

Mar 16, 2020 | Categories: Announcements, Blog

The last week saw unprecedented actions to stop the spread of the coronavirus (also called COVID-19) in the United States. Every university is taking steps to keep their students safe. Theta Phi Alpha is doing the same, taking steps to keep our members and our staff safe. For example, we have cancelled all air travel for the month of March and will reassess later this month.

We have established a COVID-19 Update page on our website of the latest information for our members. As always, if you have questions, please call the office at (440) 899-9282 or email us at [email protected].

We are making our decisions based on the information provided by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). We are asking our members to abide by their university and/or governmental instructions.

While we cannot gather in person, there are many tools available to meet virtuall…BlueJeans, Google Hangouts, Zoom, Free Conference Call, etc.

This is a stressful and scary time for many. Working remotely or through distance learning can increase feelings of loneliness. Please reach out often to others to stay connected. Call your sisters, family and friends. Offer assistance to your neighbors.  Let us know what you are up to and share with others. Keep in touch with your community.

You may have heard the terms social distancing and flattening the curve. I recommend researching these terms to educate yourself on how to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Visit the CDC website to learn more about preventing the spread of the virus.

As of March 15th, we are still moving forward with our National Convention planning and we'll be prepared for the July celebration in Jacksonville Beach, Florida.

We will continue to monitor news channels, social media, the CDC, and the WHO to adjust as necessary to keep our members and staff safe and to combat the spread of COVID-19.

Take care of yourselves.
